I recently had the chance to listen to the CONSENSUS AUDIO LIGHTNING and MAGMA speakers and to hear something really great.

I came with the attitude to listen to everything objectively and with distance. But after a couple of minutes, I had to give up - there was no way to remain distanced and objective.

The demonstration captivated me ... it's simply amazing how much fun and enjoyment such a "small" LIGHTNING speaker provides. You simply forget that it's a recording and not live music.

The bass, really deep, was fantastic. You could even hear the angle at which the acoustic bass was placed and could experience its deepness in the superb sound reproduction. You were simply bathed in the wonderful sound.

With regard to the craftsmanship ... worth every penny.

But now, to my personal favorite - MAGMA.

I could hardly stand it.

In the MAGMA I found everything that I ever wished for in the sound. Analytic on the highest level, without being tiring to listen to. A bone-dry bass, a perfect proportion of attack and decay. A perfect example of differentiation in the bass. A breathtaking staggered arrangement of the low tones, that I hadn't even heard with my genial AUDIO PHYSIC Avanti. The location of the speakers couldn't be distinguished - eyes closed, you're surrounded with sound rather than listening.

What makes Consensus loudspeakers so extraordinary?

First of all the beautifully crafted lute-shaped cabinet, made from seven layers of beech wood - no MDF!, is designed especially for the innovative AIRFLOW technique (flow bench research). There is no need for cabinet damping material anymore - air reflections in the cabinet caused by the movement of the membranes are controlled and time-coherent. The result of this is that the sound is extremely pure, natural and fast. All drivers are ceramic drivers from the German company Accuton and the baskets and magnets are AIRFLOW optimized - a black diamond tweeter is optionally available. The crossover network uses only the top quality high-grade pair-matched premium capacitors, oxygen-free copper-foil coils and metal-oxide resistors made by Mundorf Germany. The internal cabling is handmade and developed in cooperation with the Technical University Vienna. The single wire terminal uses top WBT-Germany platinum binding posts.
